How do I get my dog used to our new place and to be comfortable around my boyfriend?

Give her time to get used to the change in her home and environment. Ask your boyfriend to be especially quiet around her for awhile. Even yelling during football games can be upsetting at first. Try having her sit on your lap and have your boyfriend sit next to you. Have him give her some treats. Just take it slowly and yes, leave her crate door open so she can go in there whenever she wants. That is her den. She needs to have her own space where she feels safe. She will get more at ease in time.
