Can Spirit Reaper be used for a Synchro Summon?

i was dueling with a friend and i summoned Junk Synchron and wanted to Synchro him and Spirit Reaper to Summon Goyo Guardian and my friend said i could because of Spirit Reaper's effect so can i or not?
